Special Series (Mourning notes)
In 1943, Japan returned the favor to Thai giovernment that allied itself in the Great East Asia War by returning four Malay states that former under Thai sovereignty before became to British protectorates to Thailand. Thai government prepared the banknotes to launch in these states, but Japanese notes already circulated there. Thai government had to keep these banknote to maintain the relation with Japan. Later, they were brought to overprint to solve the shortage of banknotes.

50 Baht overprinted type 1
The Ministry of Finance solved the shortage of banknotes at the end of the war by overprinted them in surcharged valueand put into circulation. As the notes are crossed with blackened bands, they are referred to as mourning notes.
By an announcement made by the Ministry of Finance on november 20, 1946, 50 Baht banknotes were withdrawn and they were not accepted as legal tender from December 1, 1946.
