The greater East Asia War resulted in a halt of deliveries of notes from Thomas de la Rue bacause England was at war with Japan. There was thus a shortage of notes yet demand was increasing. The Thai government requested Japan to arrange the printing of banknotes. The Mitsui Bussan Kaisha Company was commisioned to act as an agent to contact the Japan Printing Bureau.
Banknotes, 5th Series, had seven denominations, 50 Satang, 1 Baht, 5 Baht, 10 Baht, 20 Baht, 100 Baht, 1000 Baht. The designs and background were in intaglio printing with a watermark of the Constitution placed on pedestal tray.
